SETTERS GET SWEPT BY DOMINICAN COLLEGE IN DOUBLEHEADER

 

BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Pace University softball team suffered a tough doubleheader sweep at the hands of non-conference foe Dominican College, by the scores of 6-4 and 12-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Pace Field.

The losses will drops the Setters to 7-8 for the season, while the wins will improve Dominican to 17-6 overall on the year.

Pace's ace Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (4-4) got off to a slow start on the mound giving up five runs in the first three innings putting the Setters in an early 5-0 hole.

The Setters started to chip away at the five run deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning. Victoria Palleschi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills) walked to lead off the inning. Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) then singled to the shortstop to put runners on first and third with one out. Now with two outs in the inning Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) stepped up, and hit a RBI single up the middle to put Pace on the board at 5-1. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) followed up with a RBI double to left field scoring Palleschi to make the score 5-2 after four innings.

Shada pitched the complete game giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits. She also went on to strike out two, and walk four.

Pace brought the game to as close as 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, and had a runner at second base with two outs, but Vanessa Maloney (New Milford, CT/New Milford) struck out to end the comeback hopes.

The second game saw the Pace bats go cold as the Setters could only muster up four hits in a 12-1 decision after five innings. The lone standout for Pace was Michelle Forgione (Islip, NY/Islip) who went 2-for-2 in the game with a double, and a run scored.

The Setters will be back in action on Thursday, April 2 as they will be on the road to take on non-conference foe Queens College in a doubleheader. The first game will start at 3:00 p.m.
