SETTERS SPLIT TWIN BILL WITH SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT
HURLEY BLASTS GRAND SLAM IN THE OPENER

NEW HAVEN, CT- Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) went 3-for-8 in the doubleheader, blasting a grand slam homerun in the opener as the Setters split a twin bill with the Owls of Southern Connecticut. The Owls took the opener 5-4 in 10 innings, while the Setters held on for a game two victory 4-3. The Setters move to 12-13 overall and 6-4 in conference play, while the Owls are now 21-7 and 10-4 in the NE-10.

In the opener, the Setters did all their damage in the third inning as Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy), Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) all had singles to load the bases. Hurley would put the Setters 4-0 as she launched a grand slam homerun to left field for her fourth round-tripper of the season. The Owls would chip away, scoring a pair of runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to force extra innings. In the tenth, Southern Connecticut would push across the game-winning run to take game one 5-4.

On the hill, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (7-6) went the distance, allowing five runs (four earned) on 13 hits, while striking out three.

In the nightcap, Nicole Schultheis (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI single in the fourth as the Setters held off a late Owls' rally to win game two. Dague had a run scoring single in the third to put the Setters on the board, while Schultheis scored on a throwing error in the inning. Michelle Forgione (Islip, NY/Islip) put the Setters up 4-0 with an RBI single in the top half of the seventh. Southern Connecticut would rally for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but reliever Samantha Poulsen (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) faced two batters and shut the door on the Owl rally to earn her second save of the season.

On the mound, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (4-2) tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while fanning two. Poulsen recorded the final out in the seventh, fanning the second batter she faced to pick up her second save of the season.

Pace is back in action on Saturday, April 11 when the Setters will host the Purple Knights of Bridgeport for a for a non-conference doubleheader scheduled for a 1 pm start at Pace's Briarcliff campus.
