SETTERS GET SWEPT BY #8 ADELPHI UNIVERSITY IN DOUBLEHEADER

BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Pace University softball team suffered a tough doubleheader sweep at the hands of Adelphi University, who is ranked eighth in the NCAA Eastern Regional Poll, by the scores of 1-0 and 10-0 (5) on Wednesday afternoon at Pace Field.

The losses will drop the Setters to 14-15 for the season, while the wins will improve the Panthers to 21-9 overall on the year.

Game one of the doubleheader featured an old fashioned pitchers duel between Pace's ace Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (8-7), and Adelphi starter Christine Robinson (Oceanside, NY/Sacred Heart) (8-4). Both pitchers combined to only give up seven hits over the first six innings as both players had all their pitches working for them on the afternoon.

The Panthers broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh scoring a run on two hits, and a sacrifice bunt to make the score 1-0 Adelphi after six and a half. Pace didn't have a seventh inning comeback in them today as they went down in order in the bottom of the seventh to lose a heartbreaker 1-0.

One bright spot for the Setters on offense was Nicole Schultheis (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) who went 2-for-2 on the day to bring her team leading average up to .449 for the year.

Shada pitched a complete game giving up one run on five hits. Shada struck out one, and walked one in a losing effort. Robinson, for Adelphi, pitched a complete game shutout giving up only four hits and no walks in a very efficient outing.

The second game featured a nine run third inning for Adelphi, and the Panthers also managed to keep the Pace bats quiet again as Pace could only manage four hits on the game.

Adelphi batted around in the third inning as the Panthers went in for the kill scoring nine runs on nine hits to make the score 10-0 after three innings, and would win by that same margin in five innings.

The Setters will be back in action on Friday, April 17 as they will be on the road to take on conference foe Assumption College in a doubleheader. The first game will start at 3:00 p.m.
