SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO NEW HAVEN
WEST HAVEN, CT- The Pace softball team dropped a pair of game to the Chargers of New Haven, losing a tough 3-2 decision in the opener, while falling 8-0 in five innings in the nightcap. The Setters fall to 16-17 and 10-6 in conference play, while the Chargers improve to 24-12 and 16-6 in conference play.
In the opener, New Haven got on the board in the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead, while adding a run in the third. Pace would answer in the fourth as Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) led off with singles. Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) continued her hot hitting, ripping a double to right center to drive in Pane. Larissa Porcelli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) would tie the game at two with a sacrifice fly to score Dague and knot the game at two. The Chargers would push a run across in the sixth, scoring the run on a wild pitch.
On the mound, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on 10 hits, while striking out three.
In the nightcap, the Setters were limited to one hit, coming on a third inning single by Pane, while the Chargers posted 10 hits in the game. Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (4-4) pitched four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out three. Samantha Poulsen (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) recorded two outs in the fifth inning, allowing four runs on four hits.
Pace is back in action on Sunday, April 19 when the Setters will travel to Easton, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Stonehill College at 12 pm
