HURLEY'S SIX RBI'S LEADS
SETTERS TO SWEEP OVER STONEHILL
SHADA EARNS WIN IN BOTH GAMES
EASTON, MA- Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) went 6-for-9 in two games with six RBIs, leading the Setters to a twin bill sweep over the Skyhawks of Stonehill College. Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) earned a victory in both games of the doubleheader, as the Setters dominated game one 14-4 and rallied in the nightcap, winning 3-2 in eight innings. The Setters improve to 18-17 overall and 12-6 in conference play, while the Skyhawks drop to 10-22 and 10-10 in conference play.
In the opener, the Setters dominated, pounding out 14 hits as Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) both went 3-for-4, while Hurley went 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Pane scored three times and drove in a pair, while Dague crossed the plate twice. Pace took advantage of a pair of errors by the Skyhawks, leading to four unearned runs for a 4-0 lead. Stonehill answered in their half of the frame, slicing the lead to one run with three runs in the inning on a three-run homerun by Meghan Sheehy.
The Setters wasted no time in answering with three runs in the top of the second as Hurley and Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) each had run scoring singles in the inning. Pace would tack on four more runs in the fifth, led by Pane who ripped a two run single. Hurley and Allutto also laced RBI singles in the inning as the Setter pulled ahead 11-3. Stonehill would push a run across in the fifth but Hurley put the icing on the cake, blasting a two-run homerun in the seventh to keep the game out of reach. Shada (10-8) tossed five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, while striking out seven. Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two.
In a thrilling nightcap, the Skyhawks jumped out in the lead, scoring in the third inning for a 1-0. The Setters answered in the sixth as three consecutive singles by Pane, Dague and Hurley drew Pace even at one. Stonehill would take the lead in the sixth with one run but left the bases loaded and gave the Setters an opportunity.
In the Pace seventh, pinch hitter Larissa Porcelli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) led off with a double, moving to third on a groundout. Allutto would tie the game with a sacrifice fly to right field to force extra innings. In the eighth, Dague led off with a double and scored the eventual winning run on a single by Hurley to cap off an amazing afternoon for the senior first baseman.
For Pace, Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three. Shada (11-8) came on in relief, tossing two scoreless innings, fanning one to earn of second victory of the day.
Pace is back in action on Tuesday, April 21 when the Setters will host Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Pace's Briarcliff campus at 3:30 pm.
