SETTERS EARN SPLIT WITH SAINT ANSELM BEHIND MCLEAN'S TWO HOMERUNS
BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Setters split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Saint Anselm, dropping the opener 2-0, but took the nightcap 9-3 behind a pair of homeruns by Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy). Pace moves to 19-18 overall and 13-7 in the NE-10, while the Hawks are now 16-21-1 and 8-13-1 in conference play.
In the opener, the Setters outhit the Hawks 9-6, but left the bases loaded three times in the game. Saint Anselm did their damage in the third, capitalizing on a pair of Pace errors in the innings, to push across two unearned runs. On the mound, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (11-9) tossed a complete game, allowing two unearned runs on six hits, while fanning four.
In the nightcap, Pace rallied in the second as Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) ripped a two-out single. McLean followed with a double, while Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) doubled to center to put Pace up 2-0.
The Setters pulled broke out with five runs as Vanessa Maloney (New Milford, CT/New Milford) lined a two-run double to left-center, while McLean launched a three-run homerun to jump out in front 5-0. The Hawks answered with a pair of unearned run in their half of the fourth and one more in the fifth to slice the Setter lead to 7-3. Pace would put the game out of reach in the sixth as Bell and McLean blasted back-to-back to put the Setters up 9-3.
McLean was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored, while Bell and Dubey both went 2-for-3 in the nightcap. On the hill, Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (4-3) pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits, while striking out five.
Pace is back in action on Wednesday, April 22 when the Setters will travel to Springfield, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against American International at 3:00 pm.
