SHADA TOSSES ONE-HITTER IN THE OPENER AS SETTERS SPLIT WITH AIC
SPRINGFIELD, MA- Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) tossed a one-hitter in the Setters 2-0 game one win over American International, but the Yellow Jackets would rally in the nightcap, taking game one 7-6 in 10 innings. The Setters move to 20-19 overall and 14-8 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets are now 21-19 and 13-11 in conference play.
Shada was lights-out in the opener, fanning eight in the one-hit 2-0 shutout over the Yellow Jackets. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) had a RBI single in the second, while the Setters would score the other run on a Yellow Jacket error.
In the nightcap, the Setters took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. American International answered in their half of the first, scoring four times with the key hit coming on a bases loaded base clearing double. The Setters would respond in the top of the second, crossing the plate three times as Pane had a clutch game-tying two-run single to knot the game at four.
American International would score a pair of runs in the third to take a 6-4 lead. Pace would chip away as Tiffany Ott (Broad Channel, NY/Archbishop Molloy) had a run scoring single in the fourth, while Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) tied the game at six with an RBI single in the fifth. The game stayed scoreless until the tenth.
On the hill, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) went the first two innings, allowing six runs on six hits, while striking out two. Samantha Poulsen (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, fanning three. Shada (12-10) tossed the final 4 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run, while striking out four.
Pace is back in action on Saturday, April 25 when the Setters will host the Warriors of Merrimack College for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Pace's Briarcliff campus at 12:00 pm.
