SETTERS SEASON ENDS IN NE-10 QUARTERFINAL LOSS TO SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

NEW HAVEN, CT- Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) tossed a complete game four-hitter as the Setters' season ended with a 2-1 loss to the Owls of Southern Connecticut in the opening round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Setters end their season at 21-25 overall, while the Owls improve to 31-12 and advance to play the University of New Haven in the NE-10 final four.

The Setters got their lone run in the second as Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) reached on a two-base error by the pitcher. Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) would reach on a fielders' choice, moving Allutto to third. Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) drove in Allutto with a RBI groundout for a 1-0 Setter lead.

Pace would hold the lead until the bottom of the sixth as Southern Connecticut would rally with two outs. Christina Wolf would draw a walk and was pinch run for by Shawna Mallory. Alyssa Pagano would single to center to put runners at first and second. The key hit of the inning came as Brittany Gandley tripled to right field to score both runners, to give the Owls a 2-1 lead. The Setters would be retired in order in the top of the seventh, ending their season.

The Setters were limited to four hits on the day as Nicole Schultheis (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) went 2-for-2, while Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) and Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) accounted for the other two hits for Pace. Shada (13-12) went the distance in her career finale, allowing only four hits and struck out three.
