DAY TWO OF NORTHEAST-10 SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

NEW HAVEN, CT - On a night that saw 12 NE-10 records smashed, including every record on the women's side, the Southern Connecticut State University men's and women's swim teams remain in first place after the second day of competition at the 2006 Northeast-10 swimming and diving championships at Hutchinson Natatorium. 

The Southern women remain in first place with 612 points, ahead of Le Moyne with 497 points and Bentley with 305 points.  Bryant University is currently placed fourth with 271 points followed by The College of Saint Rose at 214 points, Pace with 156 points and St. Michael's at 150 points.

On the men's side, Southern Connecticut holds the lead with 508 points over St. Rose with 432 points and Bentley with 386.5 points.  Le Moyne comes in at fourth place with 326.5 points, followed by Bryant with 218.5, St. Michael's with 182, and Pace with 129.5 points.

Southern Connecticut used a strong performance from the women's 400 yard medley relay team consisting of Katie Meleg, Maria Zenoni, Cody Hall and Amy Browning to open the day.  The foursome opened the evening, winning the race in a time of 4:02.36, nearly four seconds better than second place Le Moyne and seven seconds better than the previous NE-10 meet record.

Juniors Dan Vitagliano and Shane Pelton teamed up to finish 1-2 in the men's 200 yard freestyle final.  Vitagliano finished ahead of Pelton with a time of 1:42.45, a new NE-10 meet record.  Pelton finished the race with a time of 1:47.71, just ahead of St. Rose's Sean Molloy who rounded out the top three with a time of 1:49.33.

Southern swimmers also swept the 400 yard individual medley as freshman Cody Hall won on the women's side and earned a new NE-10 meet record with a time of 4:38.48 and Andrew May took first on the men's side with a time of 4:14.88.

It was the Le Moyne men who closed out day 2 with a victory as Shawn Bankey, Ryan Lowrie, Ricky Chidsey and Will Clayton teamed up to finish first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.32.  The Southern women's team, comprised of Crystal Turi, Kayla Fisher, Megan Hansen and Rachel Heyer, finished first in their race with a time of 1:40.02.

For Pace, the women's team of Meghan Morley, Ingelcia DeCaporall, Erin Johanson, and Kristen Milano finished 5th in the 400-yard Medley Relay. That same team also finished 7th in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Johanson finished the day with three individual top-10 finishes, placing 7th in the 200-yard Freestyle, 8th in the 200-yard Backstroke and 10th in the 100-yard Butterfly. Morley also had a top-10 finish in the 200-yard Backstroke placing 7th.

The Setter men's team of Craig McClintock, Trevor Paugh, Andre Lanham, and Larry DePrimo finished 5th in the 400-yard Medley Relay, while the team of Paugh, DePrimo, Lanham, and Peter Byrnes finished 7th in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Individual top-10 finishers for the Pace men were McClintock (7th in the 400-yard IM), Lanham (8th in the 100-yard Butterfly), and Paugh (7th in the 200-yard Breastroke).
