SETTERS SET 18 SCHOOL
RECORDS AT NORTHEAST-10 INVITATIONAL
WOMEN FINISH FOURTH AND MEN FINISH SIXTH AT THE EVENT
WALTHAM, MA- The Pace women's swimming team saw their highest finish ever at Northeast-10 Conference's annual invitational (held at Bentley University) coming in fourth place, while the men's portion of the team finished in sixth. The Setters set 18 new school records at the two day event.
Kevin Dickson (Coldingham, Scotland/Wallace High) was the top performer for the men, finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.03), second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.49) and 200-yard freestyle (1:46.32), and third in the 100-yard butterfly (53.92). All four of those finishes for Dickson broke school records.
Christiaan Van Zyl (Dubai, United Arab Emirates/Dubai American Academy) made new records in the 100-yard backstroke (57.60) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.38). Van Zyl finished in the third for the 200-yard backstroke and came in fifth for the 100-yard backstroke.
John Nelson (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Westchester Community College) also gave Pace a solid performance with seventh place finish in the 200-yard breastroke (2:29.40), and a tenth place finish in the 100-yard breastroke (1:08.56).
The quartet of William King (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot), Nelson, Dickson and Van Zyl set three school records in relays. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the men finished in fifth with a new record time of 3:27.36. For the 800-yard freestyle relay, the quartet finished in third with a time of 7:40.99 for the new record. The team set another record in the 400-yard medley relay with a fifth place finish in a time of 3:51.63.
For the women's portion of the competition, Callie Grace (Dalton, MA/Miss Hall's) saw two first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.34), and the 100-yard freestyle (55.21). Both finishes set new records for Pace.
Jenna Wood (Fairport, NY/Fairport) set four new records at the invitational. Wood set records in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.05), and the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.09) which were both first place finishes. The freshman also set records in her third place finish during the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.08) and her sixth place finish in the 200 IM (2:14.82)
Deveney Zebrowski (Hewitt, NJ/Academy of Saint Elizabeth) saw three fourth place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.31), the 50-yard freestyle (25.92), and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.61).
Laeh Yang-Dipietro (New Rochelle, NY/Good Counsel Academy) finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.91), and the 200-yard butterfly (2:24.05), while finishing sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.31).
Chelsea Oberhauser (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame HS) placed sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.80) and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.43).
In diving, Cassandra Gentile (Cortland, Manor/Walter Panas) finished in fourth for the 1M (193.15) and 3M (193.45) diving events.
In the women's relay portion of the meet, the quartet of Angela Calia (Bellmore, NY/John F. Kennedy), Wood, Grace, and Zebrowski set a school record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:13.45, good for a third place finish.
The grouping of Alicia Holzer (Cromwell, CT/Cromwell), Wood, Grace, and Zebrowski also set a new women's relay record with a third place finish (3:46.11).
The quartet of Calia, Yang, Holzer, and Oberhauser placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.54), while the group of Erin Johanson (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield), Laura Carvajal (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon), Calia and Holzer placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:50.26)
The Setters return to action in the new year when they take on NE-10 opponent Adelphi University on January 14 for a 6:30 p.m. meet in Garden City, NY.
