TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS COMPETE AT WESLEYAN

On a cold and windy Saturday afternoon in Middletown, CT the Pace University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2007 J. Elmer Swanson Track and Field Invitational at Wesleyan University.

The highlight of the meet was freshman Maurice Little's (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) 400-meter run of 51.97 seconds, placing him 4th, which broke a school record held since 1991.  Little also ran a 23.96 in the 200-meter dash, good for 6th

The school record in the men's triple jump nearly fell as well when freshman Chris Smith leaped 40'03-1/4" - 12.27m, just 3.5 inches short of the 2004 record. Classmate Sam Asbeck also had a good showing in the men's long jump with a leap of 19'06 5.94m, good for 5th place.

Sophomore Kency Gilet (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet Senior) turned in a solid time of 101.08 in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles, finishing 8th, just 2 seconds off his own school record.

In the men's 5000-meter run, Enrick Garcia (Moriches, NY/St. John the Baptist) represented Pace well with a time of 17:16.87 placing 5th in the meet.

Competing against the wind and each other Freshmen Nick Molnar (Antioch, IL/Brunswick) and Mike Vitale (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) battled it out in the men's 800m.  Molnar edged out Vitale with a time of 2:19.66 to Mike's 2:20.24.

For the women's team sophomore Caylie Kachinski (Palmer, MA/Palmer) ran a personal best in the 800m run with a time of 2:38.75, good for 6th place.

Senior Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) battled the wind that frustrated throwers from every team, throwing 34'11-3/4" - 10.66m in the shot put, good for third place.

Sophomore Allie Piazza (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) and junior Michelle Lu (Brooklyn, NY/Cliffside Park) both improved their 2007 discus throws with hurls of 64-09 19.73m and 63-09 19.43m.
