VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO BRYANT IN FIVE, 3-2
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University volleyball team fell to the Bulldogs of Bryant University in a heartbreaker, 3-2 this afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference match at the Goldstein Health, Fitness & Recreation Center on Pace's Pleasantville Campus. The Setters came out strong taking the first two games 30-24 and 30-28, but the Bulldogs would fight back taking the next three games 30-19, 30-28 and 17-15 for the victory. Pace falls to 10-13 and 7-4 in the NE-10, while Bryant improves to 24-12 overall and a perfect 13-0 in conference play.
Junior Korena Johnson (Friendswood, TX/Clear Brook) led the Setters attack recording a team-high 25 kills, to go along with 14 digs and four block assists. Classmate Danielle Furka (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) also posted a double-double with 12 kills and a game-best 22 digs. Freshman Sianna Johnson (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly) was strong in the front of the net with 19 kills and three block assists. Senior Ashley D'Agostini (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines) finished with a game-high 64 assists and 15 digs. Freshmen Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) and Jessica Anderson (East Northport, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) chipped in with 21 and 16 digs, respectively, while Victoria Pompilus (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. Vernon) posted 9 kills and three block assists.
Leading the comeback for the Bulldogs was senior Likica Grceva (Natick, MA) who recorded a game-high 27 kills, to go along with 17 digs. Freshman Adrienne Boss (Dracut, MA) chipped in with 12 kills, while senior Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, IL) set up the attack with a team-high 59 assists, while adding 13 digs and five block assists.. Junior Maureen Atkins (Fenton, MO) led all Bulldogs with 21 digs. Miranda Kolb (Holt, MI) and Delia Glover (Marston Mills, MA) finished with 10 and 16 digs respectively.
Pace returns to action tomorrow Sunday, October 28th for its
last regular season home game of 2007 when the Setters host the
Yellow Jackets of American International College in a Northeast-10
Conference volleyball match. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
Seniors D'Agostini and Rebecca DePaoli (Brewster, NY/North
Salem) will be honored before the game as part of Senior
Day Celebrations.
