WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON WITH A PAIR OF LOSSES

OAKDALE, NY- The Pace women's volleyball team opened their 2009 season with a pair of losses to Dowling College and the University of Bridgeport. The Setters opened the Dowling College Tournament with a 3-1 (24-26, 26-24, 21-25, 19-25) loss to host Dowling, while falling toe Bridgeport 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 18-25, 19-25) in the second match of the day for Pace. The Setters open the 2009 season at 0-2.

In the opening match against Dowling, Victoria Pomilus (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) led Pace with 12 kills, while Shea Hansen (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) totaled 26 assists. The freshman made an immediate impact for the Setters as Elyse Rowland (Antioch, CA/Deer Valley) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Fellow newcomers Susana Verdugo-Del Real (El Centro, CA/Southwest) chipped in 10 kills, while Nora Rugova (Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) added 18 assists.

In the second match against Bridgeport, Sianna Johnson (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly) led the Setters with 13 kills. Rowland added 11 kills, while Rugova totaled 12 digs. Hansen posted 33 assists.

Pace return to action on Tuesday, September 8, when the Setters will kick off their home schedule with a non-conference match against Mercy College at 7 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center at Pace's Pleasantville campus.
