PACE TOPS FRANKLIN PIERCE, 67-52

RINDGE, N.H. (January 2, 2006) – Franklin Pierce saw its six game winning streak come to an end, as Pace University posted a 67-52 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball action at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse this evening.

Senior guard Jesse Dlabola (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) led all scorers for Pace with a game-high 20 points (17 first half), including the Setters first 13 points of the game. Dlabola shot 8-of-16 from the field and also grabbed four rebounds. Sophomore Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa) added ten points, six rebounds and two assists for the Setters, while junior Ashley Wallace (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) registered eight points and nine boards. Junior Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free) chipped in nine boards as well and blocked three shots. Sophomore Stephanie Bergeron (Pointe Claire, Quebec/Dawson College) led Franklin Pierce with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three point range. Senior Heather Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) added eight points, four rebounds and two assists, while Maria Clifton (New York, N.Y./Saint Michael’s Academy) chipped in eight points, seven boards and a block.

Pace out-rebounded Franklin Pierce 43-29 for the contest and held the Ravens to 35.1-percent (20-for-57) shooting from the field, including 8-30 (26.7%) in the second half. Both teams shot well in the first half with Pace hitting 46.9% (15-32) of its shots and the Ravens hitting 44.4% (12-27).

Franklin Pierce erased a four-point (41-37) deficit early in the second half and grabbed a one-point advantage (42-41) after a pair of Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) free throws with 13:24 to play.

 

However, Pace reeled off a 14-2 run, capped by a Dlabola three-pointer (her only points of the second half), to open an 11-point lead (55-44) with 8:31 on the clock. The Setters run extended to 20-4 after a pair of Maria Brown (Frederick, Md./Frederick) free-throws with 4:40 to play, giving them a 15-point lead (61-46) and the Ravens never threatened the rest of the way.
