SETTERS OUTLAST WARRIORS, 61-45

PLEASANTVILLE – The Pace University women’s basketball team defeated Merrimack College, 61-45, for their seventh consecutive win of the season.  Pace improves to 17-4 overall and 12-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference while Merrimack drops to 6-17 overall and 3-12 in conference play.

Maria Brown (Frederick, MD/Frederick) led all scorers with 15 points, hittong on 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.  Brown also totaled seven rebounds, three assists and seven steals.  Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while Jesse Dlabola (Levittown, NY/Holy Trinity) tallied 10 points and five steals. 

The game was tight early with five ties and five lead changes in the first half.  Pace had it’s biggest lead of the first half after going on a 15-to-3 run over a nine minute stretch in the first half.  Merrimack would cut the lead to five with a 6-to-0 run to close out the half over the final 2:23. 

Merrimack took a one-point lead, 33-32, at the 16:03 mark in the second half before a lay-up by Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/Norwich) kicked off a 16-to-0 run over the next five minutes to give Pace a 48-33 lead with 11:20 left in the game.  Merrimack would cut the lead to eight, 51-43, at the 5:57 mark before Pace used a 8-to-0 run to give them their biggest lead of the game, 59-43, at the two minute mark.

Pace as a team shot poorly, hitting just 22-of-67 from the floor for 32.8% on the game.  Merrimack hit 17-of-46 at 37%.  The Setters managed to out-rebound their opponent, 43-35, while also holding the Warriors scoreless from outside the 3-point arc.  Pace turned the ball over 16 times, while Merrimack gave it away 29 times. 

For Merrimack, Joelle Martin (Somerville, MA/ Somerville) had a game-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and four steals.  Gately Golden (Fair Haven, NJ/ Rumson-Fair Haven) had 11 points and eight rebounds while Shannon Bodamer (Pittsburgh, PA) totaled 11 points.

Pace returns to action when they travel to North Easton, Mass. on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 to take on Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up set for 5:30 p.m.
