SETTERS CRUISE BY PENMEN, 78-40
PLEASANTVILLE – The Pace University women’s
basketball team defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 78-40,
in a Northeast-10 Conference game played on the Pleasantville
campus of Pace University. Pace improves to 11-4 overall and
6-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference while Southern New Hampshire
drops to 3-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
The Setters’ controlled the game from the opening tip,
despite the Penmen opening regulation with a 4-0 lead. Pace
then outscored SNHU 19-5 over the following seven minutes.
Pace would eventual push their lead to 15 points at 35-20 with just
over two minutes to play in the half. A basket by Alex
Giannapoulou (Thessalonika, Greece) with 41 seconds in the first
half cut the Setter lead to 13, giving them a 35-22 lead.
Sophomore Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/ St. John
Villa) scored a game-high 8 points in the first half while
also grabbing three rebounds and totaling two assists.
The second half was all Pace as the Setters outscored SNHU, 43-18
down the stretch. Pace opened the second half with a 14-4 to
give them a 45-26 lead with 15 left in the game. Pace would
push their lead to 34 points, 66-32, at the 6:24 mark with a 21-6
run and would close out the game with a 12-8 run, capped off with a
buzzer-beating lay-up by Setter reserve Maria Cirello
(Saddle Brook NJ/ Paramus Catholic).
For the game, Pace had four players finish with double-digits in
the scoring column. Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/
Norwich Free) had a double-double with 11 points and 10
rebounds, as well as three blocks. Ashley Wallace
(Oswego, NY/Oswego) had 10 points and six rebounds while
Jesse Dlabola (Levittown, NY/ Holy Trinity) and
Andrea Padelsky (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) each
finished with 11 points. Liran Buchris (Massad,
Israel/ Great Neck South) had eight points and six assists
while Rossmy and Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/ St.
John Villa) each chipped in with eight.
Pace held Southern New Hampshire without a double figure scorer as
Chrisondria Griffith (Brockton, MA/ Brockton) and Giannapoulou each
totaled six points and six rebounds. Stephanie Houghton
(Manchester, NH/ Manchester West) had a team-high eight points
while Sara Tucker (Red Hook, NY/ Red Hook Central) and Megan Shay
(Candor, NY/ Candor) each had seven points and five rebounds.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Lowell, MA on Monday,
January 15th to take on the University of Massachusetts
Lowell River Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup slated for
5:30 p.m.
