PACE HOLDS OFF FRANKLIN PIERCE, 59-50
PLEASANTVILLE – The Pace University women’s
basketball team defeated Franklin Pierce Collge, 59-50, in a
Northeast-10 Conference match-up on the Pleasantville campus of
Pace University. Pace improves to 13-4 overall and 8-4 in the
Northeast-10 Conference while Franklin Pierce drops to 10-7 overall
and 7-5 in conference play.
The Setters trailed at the half as the Ravens took a 26-23 lead
heading into halftime. FPC’s Heather Jacobs (Stoughton,
MA/ Stoughton) dropped in nine points in the first half. Pace
led, 5-4, at the 17:43 mark before Franklin Pierce rallied for a
15-4 run over the next 11 minutes to give them a 19-9 lead with
less than seven minutes to play in the half. A 10-to-5 Pace
run over the final five minutes of the first frame cut the
Ravens’ lead to 26-23.
Pace opened the second half with an 18-8 run that gave them a 41-36
lead with 12:20 remaining. In the run, Jesse Dlabola
(Levittown, NY/Holy Trinity) and Liran Buchris
(Massad, Israel/ Great Neck South) each had five
points. Franklin Pierce would cut the Setters’ lead to
one at the 5:31 mark, 51-50, on a lay-up by Heather Benton (Valley
Springs, CA/St. Mary’s). The basket would be the
Ravens’ last of the game as they were outscored, 9-0, as Pace
pulled out the 59-50 triumph.
For the Setters, Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/ Norwich Free
Academy) recorded her second consecutive home
double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Sheppard hit 3-of-6 from the floor while also hitting on 8-of-10
from the free throw line. Andrea Padelsky (Lebanon,
PA/Lebanon) was 2-for-4 from 3-point range for 10 points
while Maria Brown (Frederick, MD/ Frederick)
finished with 10 points, three assists and three steals.
Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) tallied eight
points and seven rebounds.
For Franklin Pierce, Jacobs totaled a game-high 16 points while
also pulling down six rebounds. Danielle D’Ettorre
(Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/St. Mary’s) and Benton each had
nine points and nine rebounds.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Worcester, MA to take on
the Greyhounds of Assumption College on Saturday, January 21 at
1:30 p.m.
