SETTERS FALL TO HOLY FAMILY IN NCAA FIRST ROUND
NEW HAVEN, CT - The Pace University women's basketball team lost to
Holy Family University, 70-62, in the first round of the NCAA
Division II Women's Basketball Northeast Regional. Pace finishes
the year at 21-8 overall while Holy Family improves to 29-2.
The Setters led at halftime, 33-30, behind Ashley Wallace's (Oswego, NY/Oswego) nine points. Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) and Liran Buchris (Massad, Isreal/Great Neck South) each had six points in the first half. Buchris converted on a halfcourt attempt as time expired to give Pace a three point edge.
Pace led until the 11:30 mark when HFU's Lindsay Rock hit on a jumper off an assist from Melissa Brooks to take a 44-43 lead. The team's traded baskets until the 8:43 mark when they were tied 49-49. Holy Family took the lead at the 4:46 mark, 54-53, on a pair of free throws from Megan Bauer. Holy Family would close out the game outscoring the Setters, 17-9, over the final 4:46.
For the game, Holy Family's Bauer totaled 14 points and 14 rebounds, leading a HFU attack that outrebounded Pace 42-25 for the game. Jennifer Andrews totaled 13 points and eight rebounds while Katie Dunn finished with 10 ponts and Kelly Killion knocked down 12 of her 15 points in the second half.
Wallace led all Pace scorers with 15 points. Andrea
Padelsky (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon), Hannah Sheppard (Norwich,
CT/Norwich), Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa)
and Buchris all totaled eight points in the loss.
