SEYMOUR NAMED MBWA
DIVISION II COACH OF THE YEAR
DLABOLA AND WALLACE NAMED TO 2ND TEAM
WHITE PLAINS, NY- Pace University Women's
Basketball head coach Carrie Seymour was named the Division II
Coach of the Year by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers
Association. It is Seymour's fourth selection as Coach of the Year
by the MBWA. She previously won in 1996, 2000 and 2001.
Senior Jesse Dlabola (Levittown, NY/Holy Trinity and junior Ashley
Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) were named to the 2nd
team.
Seymour's Setters finished the year at 21-8 overall and posted a
Northeast-10 Conference record of 16-6, good for 4th
place in the NE-10 Conference tournament. The Setters also claimed
the 4th seed in the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional. The Setters' 21 wins mark the 9th time
in Seymour's 14 year coaching career her team has reached the
20-win plateau and the second consecutive year.
This season Seymour won her 250th career game and boasts
a career record of 266-148 with a winning percentage of .643.
Seymour is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association
and also serves on the Division II Kodal All-American
Committee.
Dlabola earned 2nd team honors after averaging 8.5
points, 3.9 assists and 3.1 steals per game. Dlabola was also
named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic 1st
Team as well as the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College
Division District I 3rd Team.
Dlabola came to Pace prior to the 2003-04 season
from Adelphi University. While at Adelphi she broke the
school record for steals in a game, season and career while also
ranking nationally among all Division I and II players. She
was an all-NYCAC selection in two seasons at Adelphi, while also
being named the NYCAC Rookie of the Year for the 2001-02
season. Her transfer to Pace instantly marked a change in the
Pace women's basketball program despite a season-ending injury in
her 2nd career game at Pace. During that season
she was the inspiriational leader of a team that showed an eight
game improvement in the win's column. In her first full
season with Pace, she led a Setter attack that returned to the
20-win plateau and jetted into the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional. During her time at Pace, she has been a mainstay in
the Northeast-10 assists and steals Top 10. For her career,
at Pace and Adelphi, Dlabola totaled 1,311 points, 357 rebounds,
358 assists and knocked down 180 3-pointers. Her 453 career
steals rank 6th in Division II history.
Wallace was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball
3rd team, as voted on by the Northeast-10 Conference women's
basketball coaches. Wallace was one of 20 players, including five
freshman, to receive the honors as released on Thursday, March 2,
2006.
Wallace had a break-out season for the Setters, leading them with
11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 52.1%
(138-265) from the floor. Wallace ranked 14th in the
conference in points per game and 3rd in field goal
percentage. For the year, she started in 27 out of 29 games
played, scoring in double figures 20 times. Against St.
Michael's on December 10, 2005, she turned in her first
double-double performance, finishing with 15 points and 11
rebounds. In her only 20-point game of her career, against
Bryant on January 24, 2006, she also grabbed 10 rebounds.
This season she set career highs in points (331), points per game,
rebounds (172), rebounds per game, steals (21), field goals (138)
and field goal percentage. Wallace led Pace in scoring eight
times, and led the team in rebounding 12 times. Heading into
her senior season she has totaled 721 points, 442 rebounds, and is
shooting 47.6% (294-617) from the floor.
Earlier in the season, Wallace was named to the
Northeast-10 Conference All Academic 1st team and the ESPN The
Magazine Academic All America District 1 College Divsion 2nd team.
Wallace posted a Northeast-10 Conference high grade-point-average
of 3.97 in Secondary Education.
