SETTERS DEFEAT UMASS LOWELL, 72-66, IN HOME OPENER
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University women’s basketball team defeated UMass Lowell, 72-66, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at the Goldstein Fitness Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. Pace opens their NE-10 season at 1-0, while also improving to 2-0 overall. UMass Lowell goes to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Setters trailed at halftime, 34-29, despite shooting a blistering 57.9% (11-of-19) from the floor and 5-of-9 from long range. Pace did however turn the ball over 13 times, and also allowed three River Hawks’ offensive rebounds. Lowell’s Tonya Perry (Somerville, MA ) had 10 points and two assists at the break while Pace’s Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY) had 10 points and two rebounds. Senior Andrea Padelsky (Lebanon, PA) had eight points at intermission, hitting on both attempts from long range.
Lowell would push their lead to 10 points at 49-39 with just over 13 minutes left in regulation. Pace then went on a 15 to 2 tear taking a 54-51 lead with just under 10 minutes to play. Both teams would be tied at the six minute mark at 56-56 just before Jesse Dlabola (Levittown, NY) and Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT) converted on back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Setters a six point lead at 62-56.
Dlabola finished with a double-double, totaling 12 points and 10 assists as well as six rebounds and three steals. Dlabola hit on 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY) hit on 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 from 3-point range for 17 points on the day. Padelsky would finish with 12 in the game while Wallace would totaled 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
For UMass Lowell, Perry’s 22-point effort were a career-high. Lindsay Woodfield (Brick, NJ ) finished with six points and eight assists while Emily Kordas (Hillsboro, NH ) had 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.
The Setters return to action when they travel to Manchester, NH
on Tuesday, November 22nd for a Northeast-10 Conference
matchup with the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University set
for 5:30 p.m.
