WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COASTS TO WIN OVER SAINT ROSE
SENIORS SHEPPARD AND WALLACE KEY SETTERS VICTORY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University women's basketball team defeated the Golden Knight of the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up, 80-59, at the Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters improve to 14-4 overall, 9-4 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights drop to 13-5 and 9-4 in conference play.
Saint Rose jumped out to an 8-4 advantage in early action. The tide turned towards the Setters as they used an 18-4 run to take a 22-12 lead midway through the opening frame to take control of the game. Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) scored six points in the run, while Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) hit a three-pointer and connected on a pair of free throws. Pace pushed their lead to as much as 18 points, before heading into the break with a 47-32 lead. Wallace had 12 points, while Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free) recorded 10 points and six boards as the Setters shot a blistering 51.4% from the field, and 6-for-10 (60%) from the outside to key their halftime advantage.
Pace continued to control the play in the second half using a 9-2 run to open the period to stretch their lead to 22 points and cruised to an easy win over their in-state foe. Klingele poured in nine of her 17 points in the final period to allow the Setters to dominate the play down the stretch and put the Setters into a tie in the Northeast-10 Conference with the Golden Knights.
For Pace, Sheppard recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards, to go along with five assists and three steals. Wallace finished with a game-high 18 points shooting 9-for-16 from the field, while grabbing nine boards. Klingele tallied 17 points, while Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South) chipped in six points and a game-high 10 assists. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) contributed 12 points off the bench.
For Saint Rose, Mary Lewis tallied a team-high 12 points, four boards and four steals. Dana Brown led the Golden Knights bench, contributing 10 points. Lauren Revesz finished with nine points and four rebounds.
The Setters return to action on when they host Bentley College
on Tuesday, January 23rd for a 5:30 pm tip-off in a key
Northeast-10 Conference match-up.
