WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO WIN OVER SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
WALLACE NOTCHES CAREER-HIGH 31 POINTS
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University women's basketball team defeated Northeast-10 Conference opponent Southern New Hampshire University, 79-65, at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Pace's Pleasantville campus, to notch their fourth consecutive win. The Setters improve to 18-6 overall, 13-6 in the NE-10, while the Penmen drop to 5-19 and 3-17 in conference play.
Pace took control early in the ball game using a 13-2 run over a five minute period to take a 25-12 advantage. The Penmen rallied to cut the Setter lead to five with just over two minutes remaining in the half. The Setters responded, scoring the final six points of the half to push their lead back to double figures and went into the break with a 37-26 lead.
The Setters continued their solid play to start the second half, extending their lead to 14 points. Southern New Hampshire closed the gap, getting within eight points at 49-41 but could not get any closer as the Setters used a 14-8 run to put the game away.
For Pace, Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) dominated the paint all afternoon, netting a career-high 31 points, while shooting 15-for-17 from the field. Wallace is the first Pace women's basketball player to score 30 or more points since Wanda Maynard-Morris accomplished the feat on January 19, 2002, when she scored 31 while playing on the road against Assumption College. Wallace also grabbed six rebounds in the game. Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) chipped in 19 points five boards, two assists and a pair of steals. Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while adding nine points. Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South) finished with 10 points and a game-high eight assists.
For Southern New Hampshire, Alyssa Whitney led the way with 15 points, while Sara Tucker added 12 points and five rebounds. Julia Houghtaling chipped in a team-high six boards.
The Setters return to action on when they host Northeast-10
opponent and #5 ranked in Division II Southern Connecticut State
University on Wednesday, February 14 for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
