WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS IN NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP
WILL AWAIT A POSSIBLE AT-LARGE BID TO NCAA TOURNAMENT
NEW HAVEN, CT- The #6-seeded Pace University women's basketball team lost to #1 seeded Southern Connecticut State in the finals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The Setters drop to 23-8 on the season, while the Owls improve to 28-2 and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Setters and the Owls played a close opening half as Southern build as much as a six point lead. The Owls used a late run to end the half and took a 32-23 lead in the break.
Southern Connecticut broke the game open in the second half and pulled away from the Setters, shooting nearly 60% from the field in the final period and out-rebounding Pace for the game at 38-27 to earn their second straight NE-10 Tournament title.
For Pace, Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South) led the way with 14 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field, while Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) chipped in 12 points and three boards. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) added 10 points and a pair of boards, while hitting 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) grabbed a team-high five rebounds
For Southern Connecticut, Kate Lynch and Shamika Jackson accounted for 56 points, with Lynch netting 34 and Jackson scoring 22. Jackson and Babette Noah each added a game-high eight boards, while Lynch grabbed four.
The Setters will await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA
