WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES PAST SAINT ANSELM, 70-52, IN NE-10 OPENER
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University women's basketball team defeated the Saint Anselm College Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up, by the score of 70-52, tonight at the Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters improve to 2-0 on the season, 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Hawks fall to 0-1 overall, 0-1 in conference play.
The first half saw some early action as both teams traded baskets throughout the half. The Setters shot 37% from the floor, while the Hawks shot 38%. The Setters, however, would take the first half lead 30-28, with the help of their three point shooting, going 4-for-10 from beyond the arc.
The Setters came out of the first half on fire as they opened up the second half with an 18-4 run, capped off by two foul shots from Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free). Sheppard would end the day with 12 points, while recording seven rebounds. The Setters offense was led by Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) who recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) led all scorers with a game-high 16 points, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South) also chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
For the Hawks, Jessica Morgan (W Lebanon, NH/Southern Connecticut State) had a team-high 15 points, going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Morgan also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Meredith Amyot (Ashford, CT/E.O. Smith) was the only other Hawk in double-figures, scoring 10 points, while adding a game-high five steals.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, November
21st, when they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to
take on the American International College Yellow Jackets in a
Northest-10 Conference match-up. The game is scheduled for a 5:30
pm start.
