WALLACE RECORDS 500TH CAREER REBOUND AS PACE TOPS LE MOYNE, 78-44
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) scored 18 points and Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) added 17 as Pace topped Le Moyne 78-44 in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game at Grant Court. The Setters (8-2, 5-2 Northeast-10) used a 15-0 game-opening run to help send Le Moyne (4-6, 2-5 Northeast-10) to its third consecutive setback.
Junior Kim Wagoner (Cicero, N.Y./C-NS) scored 11 points to lead Le Moyne in the scoring column. Freshmen Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) and Megan Murphy (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Millbrook) added 10 each for the Dolphins. Le Moyne missed its first 13 shots and shot just 31.7% (19-for-60) from the field for the game.
Pace kept Le Moyne off the scoreboard until Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) converted a layup to make it 15-2 with 10:50 remaining in the opening half. Le Moyne trimmed its deficit to five points on a Murphy layup with 5:14 remaining, but Pace rebounded for a 32-20 halftime lead.
Pace stormed out of the intermission with a 13-4 spurt to push its lead to 21 points. The Dolphins pulled no closer than 20 points over the final 10 minutes. The 34-point final margin was Pace's largest lead of the game.
The Setters outrebounded their hosts 47-30, led by Hannah Sheppard's (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) team-high seven rebounds. Wallace recorded six rebounds putting her over the 500 career rebound mark.
Pace knocked down 9-of-17 (52.9%) from 3-point range and half of its shots (30-for-60) overall. Freshman Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) scored 13 points and Jauna Andrews (Augusta, ME/Cony) added 12 off the bench to join Klingele and Wallace in double figures for the victors.
Pace returns to action on Friday, December 29th, when they play host to C.W. Post in a non-conference match up as part of the Pace University Holiday Classic. The Setters will also host St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, December, 30th. Both games are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. tip-offs.
