PENMEN, SETTERS NOTCH OPENING DAY VICTORIES
Game 1- Southern New Hampshire 58, Saint Thomas Aquinas 50
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Penmen of Southern New Hampshire defeated the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas, 58-50, in the opener. The Penmen improve to 5-7 overall, while Saint Thomas drops to 4-5.
For Southern New Hampshire, Julia Houghtaling recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, while Alyssa Whitney scored a team-high 15 points. Sara Tucker chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds, while Ashara Carrington tallied 13 points and five caroms. Maike Mocikat dished out a game-high eight assists.
For Saint Thomas Aquinas, Erika Ostrove led the way with a game-high 16 points, while grabbing a team-high 10 boards along with four steals. Kayla Waite added 13 points, while Raven Brinkley and Corinne Albrecht each recorded five boards.
GAME 2- PACE 79, C.W. POST 63
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters of Pace University defeated the Pioneers of C.W. Post, 79-63, to cap off the women's games for the opening day. The Setters improve to 9-2 overall, while the Pioneers drop to 4-6.
For Pace, Freshman Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) led the way for the Setters, tallying 16 points and seven rebounds. Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists. Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) chipped in with 14 points and seven boards, while Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) tallied 13 points, five boards and three steals. Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) tied for the game-high in rebounds with eight.
For C.W. Post, Erica Bell scored a game-high 17 points, to go along with five rebounds, three steals and three assists. Whitney Murrer scored 12 points, while tying for the game-high in boards with eight. Gina Catherall and Jennifer DiChiara each recorded 10 points and five rebounds.
Day Two of the Pace University Holiday Classic concludes on
December 30 as C.W. Post takes on Southern New Hampshire at 1:00
pm, while the Pace will play Saint Thomas Aquinas at 3:00 pm.
