PACE FALLS TO #25 FRANKLIN PIERCE 70-54

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Ravens of Franklin Pierce, ranked #25 in the latest national poll, defeated the Setters of Pace University 70-54 in women's basketball Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters drop to 5-14 overall and 4-10 in the NE-10, while the Ravens improve to 16-4 and 11-4 in conference play.

The Ravens took a quick early 7-0 lead on the Setters keyed by a three-pointer from Toby Martin (Wayne, ME/Maranacock) and pair of baskets by Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy). Following a Vanessa Power (Mildura, Australia/St. Joseph's) trifecta to put the Ravens up by seven, the teams went cold for a seven minute stretch with the two teams combining for two field goals, one by the Setters' Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) and the other by Leedham. The teams settled down and the scoring picked up as Pace's Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) caught fire and keep the Setters in the game knocking down a pair of free throw and raining three trifectas over a three minute stretch to put the Setters down by four at 27-23 with 2:38 left in the half. A jumper and three-pointer from Leedham over the final 2:20 of the half pushed the Raven lead to nine as the Setters committed four turnovers in that same period and trailed at the half.

Franklin Pierce extended their halftime lead to double figures early in the second half, eventually pushing their lead to its pinnacle at 27 points with 4:46 left in the game. The Ravens would maintain a double-digit lead the rest of the way and posted the win over the Setters.

The Setters were led by Losey, who totaled only two second half points, to finish with a team-high 13 points, while adding five boards and two steals. Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) was the only other Setters to reach double figures as she tallied 10 points. Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) hit three trifecta to account for all of her nine points in the game, while Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) totaled seven points and five boards. Jackie Gogel (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) also grabbed five caroms in the game.

For Franklin Pierce, Leedham led the Ravens, posting a double double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, on 9-for-15 shooting from the field. Jennifer Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy) chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Pace returns to action when they host the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Saturday, February 2 in a Northeast-10 Conference game scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
