WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ADELPHI
GARDEN CITY, NY - The Pace women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to the Panthers of Adelphi University 67-56 this afternoon. The Setters drop to 1-6 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 5-3 on the season.
The Panthers got on the board early, building a 16-4 lead midway through the opening period. Adelphi extended their lead to as much as 18 as they were backed 13-for-26 (50%) shooting in the half. The Setters struggled in the half, shooting 5-for-24 (20.8%) from the field as they trailed 32-14 at the break.
Pace us their three-point shooting to rally in the second half as they hit 7-for-12 from downtown and 16-for-27 from the field. The Setters cut the Adelphi lead to eight at 43-35 as Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) connected on a three-pointer with 11:42 left in the game. Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) hit a pair of threes, while Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/ St. John Villa) and Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) each nailed a trifecta in the Setters run. Adelphi was able to withstand the run and pushed their lead back to 15 with 3:24 to go in the game. The Setters sliced their deficit to nine but could not get any closer as Adelphi held on for the win.
For Pace, Connolly went 4-for-6 from long range, accounting for her 12 points, while grabbing three boards. Losey chipped in 11 points off the bench, while Klingele totaled 10 points. Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) led Pace with eight rebounds, while Christine Fitzgerald (San Diego, CA/Mt. Miguel) tallied six points, eight assists, three rebounds and three steals.
The Setters return to action next Saturday, December 15 when
Pace travels to Manchester, NH to take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm
College in a Northeast-10 Conference game set for a 5:30 pm
tip-off.
