WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO FRANKLIN PIERCE IN FINAL GAME OF 2007
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace women's basketball team lost to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in the Setters final game of the 2007 portion of their schedule. The Setters fall to 2-9 overall, while the Ravens improve to 10-2 on the season.
Pace jumped out to an early lead on Franklin Pierce, taking a 9-5 lead five minutes into the opening half. The Ravens answered with a 21-6 run over an eight minute stretch to pull ahead of the Setters by 11 at 26-15 with just over six minutes to go in the half. Franklin Pierce would hold onto a double-digit lead and take a 38-25 advantage into halftime.
Franklin Pierce would open up a 19 point lead three minutes into the final period. The Setters would battle back, using an 18-7 run over an eight minute period to cut their deficit to eight at 55-47 with just over five minutes left in the game. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) would collect six points in the run, while Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) nailed a trifecta and a jumper to cap the run. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) converted a three-point play and hit a jumper in the Setter rally.
The Ravens would push the lead back to double-figures as sophomore forward Johannah Leedham would convert three three-point plays over a two minute stretch to put the game away for the Ravens as they would take the victory 69-57 over the Setters.
For Pace, Losey totaled a team-high 14 points, while Klingele recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) tallied her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
For Franklin Pierce, Leedham finished with a game-high 23 points, while chipping in five assists and six rebounds. Vanessa Power totaled 14 points off the bench, while Tobey Martin added 11 points and three steals.
Pace has concluded the 2007 portion of its schedule and will
return to action when the calendar turns to 2008 when they will
travel to North Andover, MA where they will face Merrimack College
on Saturday, January 5 for a 1:30 pm tip-off.
