PACE COMES UP SHORT IN UPSET BID AGAINST #1 FRANKLIN PIERCE
SETTERS FALL TO RAVENS 65-59

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) netted 17 points as the Setters fell short against the #1 ranked Ravens of Franklin Pierce University 65-59 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the NE-10, while the Ravens improve to 12-0 and 8-0 in conference play.

The Setters take an early lead over Franklin Pierce building a 21-13 lead halfway through the opening half. The Ravens would answer with a 13-2 run to take a brief three-point lead before Pace would rally back to tie the score at 30 at the break. The first half featured seven ties and four lead changes in a back and forth half.

The second half was back and forth as well as both teams would trade baskets for most of the final period. Franklin Pierce would eventually take a 49-44 lead with 8:51 left in the game. The Setters would rally with an 8-1 burst as Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) hit a triple and Losey totaled five points in the run. Losey's trifecta at the 7:10 mark would put Pace up 52-50 to cap the run, but proved to be the Setters' final field goal of the game. The Ravens would close out the game with a  15-7 run as Franklin Pierce went 7-for-8 from the free throw line over the final three minutes of play to hold off the Setters.

For Pace, Losey finished with 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting, while Huggins finished with 11 points and five boards. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) totaled 11 points and three caroms, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) led the Setters with nine rebounds along with nine points. Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) dished out six assists and grabbed six rebounds.

Pace returns to action on Saturday, January 9 when the Setters will travel to Easton, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against the Skyhawks of Stonehill College at 1:30 pm.
