WELSOME DRAINS CAREER HIGH 25 POINTS IN NE-10 WIN OVER PURPLE KNIGHTS
COLCHESTER, VT- Pace junior Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) netted a career high 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting in the Setters 67-44 win over the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College. Welsome also created four steals in the contest. The win improves Pace's record to 11-5 overall and 8-3 in the NE-10. For the Purple Knights, the loss moves their record to 4-10 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
The Setters came out to a fast start by going on a 20-4 run over the game's first seven minutes. Saint Michael's would rally back by going on a 12-5 run cutting its deficit to nine, but a bounce back by the Setters would give Pace a 33-22 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Setters would start off on fire once again going 13-2 run to begin the period. This run translated into a 22 point lead for Pace, and the Setters would ultimately cruise to a 23 point victory.
The key stat for the game was shooting percentage. The Setters shot 50 percent from the field on the afternoon, while the Purple Knights were only able to net 27 percent of their shots.
Along with Welsome, Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) was also solid offensively, by scoring 16 points, along with collecting a team-high seven boards. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) also scored in double digits with ten points.
The Setters will be returning to action on Wednesday, January 20 when they travel to Manchester, NH to face off against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 Conference game set for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
