SETTERS ROLL PAST MERRIMACK;
POST 600TH VICTORY IN PROGRAM HISTORY
PACE PICKS UP FOURTH IN A ROW IN 69-47 WIN OVER WARRIORS
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Pace University women's basketball program posted its 600th victory with a 69-47 win over the Warriors of Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference action. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) had an all-around solid game for the Setters, finishing with 13 points and eight boards. The Setters improve to 13-5 overall and 10-3 in the NE-10, while the Warriors fall to 7-11 and 5-8 in conference play.
Pace jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the game before the Warriors battled back to pull out in front at 11-10 with 12:53 left in the first half. The Setters would rain three's as Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern), Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) and Huggins each hit a trifecta in a 19-4 run to put the Setters ahead for good at 29-14 with six minutes remaining in the first half. Pace would eventually take a 38-22 lead into the break after shooting a blistering 53.3% from the field compared to Merrimack's 28.1% shooting in the opening half.
The second half started similar to the first half as the Setters added to their halftime edge, pulling ahead by 23 points. The Warriors used a 10-0 run to get back to within 13 points but the Pace rallied with a 14-7 run to go back in front by 20 and cruised the rest of the way.
For Pace, Huggins led the in points and rebounds with 13 points and eight boards. Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) and Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) each finished with 12 points, while Losey chipped in with 12. Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) and Losey grabbed seven rebounds apiece, while Mooney dished out four assists.
Pace women's basketball started in the 1978-79 season and now in its 32nd season earned the program's 600th victory. The current record of the women's basketball program is 600-326 over that time. Head Coach Carrie Seymour is currently 332-190 and is in her 18th season at the helm of the Setter program.
Pace returns to action on Tuesday, January 26 when the Setters will travel to Lowell, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against UMass Lowell at 5:30 pm.
