PACE EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FIVE WITH VICTORY OVER UMASS LOWELL

LOWELL, MA-  Pace junior Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) led the Setters offensive attack by scoring a game-high 17 points, helping the Setters keep hold of a 69-58 victory over the River Hawks of UMass Lowell. Welsome shot 5-of-8 from the field in the contest with all five shots made coming from three point range.

The win improves Pace's record to 14-5 overall and 11-3 in the NE-10. For the River Hawks, the loss drops their record to 11-7 overall and 7-7 in conference play.

Both schools fought to a ten point tie in the opening six minutes. A 6-0 run by the River Hawks would give them a six point 16-10 lead, which would be quickly diminished by the Setters as they would eventually gain a one point advantage after a Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) three pointer made the score 23-22. A 12-2 scoring run by Pace through the remainder of the first half, gave the Setters a 35-24 lead entering the break.

A 13-2 to begin the final half of play would give the Setters a comfortable 22 point lead. Pace would eventually get their lead to as high as 24 points with a 55-31 score with 9:45 to go.

From here, the River Hawks would start to rally back and even slice their deficit to nine after a 19-4 run brought the score to 59-50. A jumper for Losey would get the Setters back on track, outscoring the River Hawks the rest of the way for the 69-58 win

Along with Welsome, Losey was also solid offensively, by draining 15 points along with collecting a team-high nine boards. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) netted eleven points and dished out a game-high seven assists in the victory.

The Setters will be returning to action on Saturday, January 30 when they come back home to face off against the Falcons of Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference game set for a 1:30 p.m. tip off at Pace's Goldstein Fitness Center on the Pleasantville Campus.
