STIFLING DEFENSE PACES
SETTERS TO SEVENTH WIN IN A ROW OVER PANTHERS
PACE ROLLS PAST ADELPHI 76-44
GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) led four Pace players in double figures with 17 points as the Setters cruised to a 76-44 victory over Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters limited the Panthers 29.3% for the game, while Pace shot 53.6%. The Setters improve to 16-5 overall and 13-3, while the Panthers fall to 3-18 overall and 0-16 in conference play.
The Setters dominated the early action, scoring the first 11 points of the game as Losey converted a three-point play and also nailed a trifecta in the run. Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) capped the run with a triple at the 15:28 mark of the opening half. Adelphi will pull within eight points at 15-7 but a 15-0 run by Pace put the Setters up 30-7 with seven minutes in the half.
Pace would continue to extend the first half dominance, taking a 49-11 lead at the break. Adelphi shot 16.7% in the first half, compared to the Setters' 54.3% over the first 20 minutes. The Setters continued their hot shooting in the second half, lead by as many as 46 midway through the final period.
For Pace, Losey shot 6-for-7 from the field, including 4-for-4 from downtown, finishing with 16 points and three boards. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) tallied 15 points, nine rebounds, and three steals, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) and Welsome each netted 12 points. Laura Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) totaled eight points, five rebounds and nine assists.
Pace returns to action on Saturday, February 6 when the Setters will travel to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Assumption at 1:30 pm.
