SETTERS CRUISE TO SEASON
OPENING VICTORY OVER ADELPHI 67-45
SOPHOMORE JAVADIFAR NETS 22 POINTS IN WIN
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) scored a career-high 22 points, while grabbing seven rebounds in the Setters' 67-45 season opening victory over the Panthers of Adelphi University. The Setters open the season at 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers fall to 0-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
The Panthers would jump out to an early lead in the game, taking a five point lead midway through the opening period. The Setters would rally with a 9-0 run with a trifecta from Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) putting Pace in the lead for good. The Setters would add to their lead late in the half, taking a 32-23 lead into the break.
Adelphi would slice the Setter lead five points at the sixteen minute mark of the second half but Pace would answer with an 11-2 run as they would connect on three triples in the rally to push their lead to 14 points at 47-33 and led by double figures the rest of the game. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) and Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) drained a pair of three-pointer with the rally capped by a triple from Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) to stretch the Setters' lead.
For Pace, Javadifar led the way with 22 point and seven boards, while Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds along with six points. Huggins finished with 12 points, while Losey totaled 10 points, five caroms and four assists.
Pace returns to action on Saturday, November 21 when the Setters will host Dowling College in a non-conference game at 1:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Pace's Pleasantville campus.
