SETTERS SECOND HALF RALLY COMES UP SHORT IN LOSS TO SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) led all scorers with 23 points but Southern Connecticut would hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left in the game to take a 65-64 victory. The Setters fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls improve to 4-0 and 2-0 in conference play.
The Setters stayed with the Owls for the first six minutes of the opening half before Southern Connecticut pulled ahead to take a 10 point lead at the break.
Pace would start off the second half strong, slicing the Southern Connecticut lead to five points in the first four minutes of action. The Owls would rally and extended their lead to the largest of lead of 14 points at 51-37 with just under 13 minutes left in the game.
The Setters would rally with a 23-9 run led by Losey's 10 points, while Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) netted 12 to pull even with Southern Connecticut at 60 apiece with 3:41 remaining in the game. Losey's lay-up proved to be the equalizer to cap the Setter rally. The Owls would take a one point lead on a free throw but Pace answered with a pair of baskets to take a three-point lead with 37 seconds left in the game.
The Owls would answer with a bucket to slice the Setter lead to one but a costly Pace turnover and ensuing foul sent Latisha Hatcher to the free throw line with four seconds to go. Hatcher would convert both from the line to put Southern Connecticut in the lead by one. The Setters would push the ball to the front court but time expired before they could get off a shot, giving the Owls the win.
For Pace, Losey's 23 points led with was along with four rebounds and three assists. Huggins totaled 21 points with 19 coming in the second half along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Pace returns to action on Sunday, November 29, when they travel to Albany, NY for Northeast-10 Conference match-up against the College of Saint Rose for a 1:30 pm tip-off.
