PACE, LE MOYNE COMPLETE PERFECT WEEKEND AT KICKOFF CLASSIC
BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace University and Le Moyne College women's soccer teams completed their perfect start to the season as both scored victories in the Day 2 finale of the Pace University Women's Soccer Kickoff Classic. Le Moyne defeated Dominican College 3-0 in the opener, while the Setters wrapped up their perfect weekend, downing Saint Thomas Aquinas 4-0. The Setters and Dolphins improve to 2-0, while the Chargers and Spartans drop to 0-2.
In the opener, Le Moyne's Christina Harrison opened the scoring
at the 39:44 mark with an unassisted goal that trickled past the
goalie and could not be cleared before crossing the goal line. The
Dolphins would later tack on a pair of goals 52 seconds apart in
the 66th minute as Megan O'Shea netted a goal off an
assist from Riane Fletcher. Jacki Ross capped the scoring on the
day with Le Moyne's third goal of the day.
In net, the Dolphins' Jessica Cochol went the distance, pitching a
shutout, while tallying six saves. For the Chargers, Rosa Centurion
played the first 40 minutes, allowing one goal, while stopping six
shots. Valentina Sturchio came on in relief, playing the rest of
the way, giving up two goals and recording 10 saves.
In the finale of the kickoff classic, the Setters remained perfect on the young season as junior Tiffany Robinson (Shelton, CT/Shelton) starred, scoring all four of the Setters goals, including a first half hat trick. Robinson struck in the 10th minute of play off an assist from Cynthia Munson (Costa Mesa, CA/Costa Mesa). The junior forward came calling again netting a pair of goals within 48 seconds in the 29th minute of play. Robinson scored off a Jacklyn Munson (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) pass and scored again off a deflection. Robinson was not finished as she tallied the Setters fourth and final goal of the afternoon early in the second half as Lisa Pizzolla (Flushing, NY/St. Francis Prep) was credited with an assist on the play.
Pace goalkeeper Jacqueline Gogel (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) was once again solid between the pipes, posting a shutout, while recording three saves in 90 minutes of play. For the Spartans, Patricia Roth also went the distance, allowing four goals, while tallying 13 saves.
The Setters return to action when they travel to Brookville, NY
to take on LIU-C.W. Post on Wednesday, August 29 at 4:00 p.m. in a
non-conference match.
