BREAULT NETS GAME-WINNER AS SETTERS CLIP FALCONS, 2-1
BRIARCLIFF, NY - With just :53 seconds remaining in the game, junior Katelyn Breault (Andover, CT/RHAM) slid the would be game-winning shot into the bottom right corner just past the diving keeper, lifting the Pace University women's soccer team over the Falcons of Bentley College 2-1 at Pace Field in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action. The Setters improve to 3-8-2 overall on the season and 1-7-2 in NE-10 play, while the Falcons drop to 7-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.
Bentley got on the board first in the 13th minute as sophomore Cheryl Boyd (Holliston, MA) netted her 6th goal of the season on a feed from junior Laura Siever (Plymouth, MA). The Pace defense was unable to clear the ball as Boyd blasted the opening goal into the top right corner.
The score would remain 1-0 until the 47th minute as senior Kimberly Ludewig (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) notched her second goal of the season on a header off of a corner kick from Breault for the equalizer. Pace would later take the lead and the game on Breault's first collegiate goal in the 89th minute. The Falcons would have a last chance to tie the game and force overtime as senior Bridget O'Malley (Milton, MA) sent a shot sailing just over the cross bar.
Freshman Alexa DAgostino (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall Central) played a solid game in net for Pace recording nine saves. Freshman Kara Smith (West Springfield, MA) and senior Kristin Stanmyer (New Paltz, NY) split time in net for Bentley as Smith played the fist half recording one save, while Stanmyer recorded three saves playing the second half.
The Falcons edged the Setters in shots 15-13, while also holding the corner kick advantage 5-2. Pace was whistled for nine fouls, while Bentley was whistled for four.
Pace will next be in action on Monday, October 8th as
the Setters travel to Old Westbury, NY to take on the Bears of the
New York Institute of Technology in a non-conference match. The
match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
