WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO ST. ANSELM 2-1
Manchester, NH- Freshman Jennifer Pearl (Stoughton,
MA) scored the game-winning goal in the second half to lift Saint
Anselm to a 2-1 win over Pace University in Northeast-10 women's
soccer action. With the win, the Hawks improve to 9-7-3 overall and
6-5-3 in the Northeast-10, while Pace falls to 4-11-2 and 1-10-2 in
league play.
Saint Anselm took an early 1-0 lead at the 14:12 mark when Michelle
Nuzzo (Dedham, MA) fired in a shot off the crossbar and into the
net for her first goal of the season. Pace would tie the game eight
minutes later on junior Tiffany Robinson's (Shelton,
CT/Shelton) 10th goal of the season in the
22nd minute. The 10 goals for Robinson this season ties
her for second all-time at Pace for goals scored in a single
season, while her 20 points puts her sixth all-time at Pace for
points scored in a single season.
Pearl scored her first game-winning score of the season just 1:20 into the second half on a feed from teammate Heidi Reece (Hoosick Falls, NY).
Freshman Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, MA) made one save to pick up the win, while freshman Alexa DAgostino (Highland Mills, NY) turned aside six shots for the Setters in the loss.
The Hawks held the shot advantage 16-7 over the Setters, while Pace held the corner kick advantage 3-2. St. Anselm was whistled for eight fouls, while the Setters were whistled seven times.
Pace returns to action on Tuesday, October 23rd for their 2007 season finale when they travel to Smithfield, RI to take on the #9 ranked Bulldogs of Bryant University in a Northeast-10 Conference match. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
