SETTERS DOMINATE MERCY IN SEASON OPENER
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University soccer team opened up their season with a 5-0 victory over non-conference opponent Mercy College. The Setters will start the season 1-0 overall, while the Mavericks fall to 0-1.
The Setters started their scoring early after Meghan Tremblay (Shrub Oak. NY/Lakeland) passed the ball over to Mariah Darrah (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free) who punched in the game's first goal, late in the 12th minute.
Almost one minute later, Allyson Dyl (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) fired in a goal of her own to give the Setters a 2-0 lead.
Late in the first half, Dyl would strike again, this time with the help of Taliza Costanzo (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley) to increase the Setter lead to 3-0.
Seanna Wright (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) added some insurance to Pace's lead after receiving the ball from Dyl, and punching it in the goal in the 45th minute.
Costanzo added on Pace's final goal of the match, in the 52nd minute after kicking a ball that was tipped off of the hands of Mercy goalkeeper Stephanie DiLegge.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, September 2 when the face off against non-conference opponent Dominican College at 3:30 pm on Pace's Briarcliff Campus.
